Our animation feedback

Our animation feedback

To evaluate our work, we had to get feedback from our target audience. Our group thought that the most effective way to get this data was to conduct a survey for our target audience. We asked four key questions and I decided to screenshot the most helpful replies. These can be seen below.

From our first respondent, we got some useful feedback. The response isn't the most detailed it could have been, but still useful nonetheless. I agree with their feedback on the whole, especially the reply to the last question. If we were to re-shoot the animation we would definitely have reshot that particular scene as the background was unprofessional.
Respondent number three also gave some useful feedback. They told us that our advert was produced well and effectively. Their feedback could have been better as they couldn't fault our work, even though it wasn't perfect.
Respondent number six has the most helpful feedback out of all our responses. They told our group that our advert didn't relate to our product but it worked. This made us re-think our story within our advert and we agreed. Luckily, it still represented Pringles as a fun and quirky brand, which was what we were aiming for. They also brought up a good point about our ending, something we need to edit or even re-shoot. Cutting randomly at the end was bad but we unfortunately had to do it as we didn't use our time effectively. This is something we need to improve on.

Finally, respondent eleven raised a good point about the office scene. Little things like this can really make something look unprofessional and we didn't realise at the time. If we were to re-make this advert, this is definitely something we would re-shoot.

When the audience was asked what their favourite part of our advert was, the majority of their responses told us they liked the space invaders theme, especially when characters were being shot out of the can. These responses show that our audience likes an advert that is creative. Blending a theme of something quite well-known with the persona of a specific product can appear memorable and funny, therefor being enjoyable to watch.

100% of respondents thought that our advert was produced well. From this we are able to see that it was well structured, understandable and clear for our audience to watch. If the advert wasn't well produced, then our audience wouldn't have been able to understand our story we put into our advert. This therefor wouldn't appeal to our audience, thus being an un-successful production.

Our group asked David a few questions regarding our video for some feedback.

Pringles Advert Interview

Target audience: Teenagers
Interviewee: David Lombardo
Age: 16

Q1. What did you think of the advert?

- The advert was very amusing and entertaining so I didn't get bored
- It was innovative and maintained my focus

Q2. Do you think it advertised the product well?
- Yes, because it showed the product was fun, energetic almost as if it was a party sort of thing.

Q3. How do you think we could improve it?
- Ending was cut too early, appearing as if it were a glitch, could add on a few more seconds. The background was quite messy in the opening and ending scene, shifting focus from the product.

Q4. What was your favourite part of the advert?
- When people were shot out of the cannon, it was very funny

Q5. What did you think of the music?
- It fit perfectly, the music gave it a more party-like atmosphere and was very energetic. It made me feel like wanting to party.

The feedback from the first question enables us to understand that our advert was an appropriate production, as it kept our target audience entertained and engaged during it's airtime. Pringles have a very distinctive characterisation for it's product and David clearly thought we correctly portrayed this in our own advert. He described our advert as entertaining, which was exactly what we were aiming for.

However, David pointed out a big flaw to our advert. This was the ending, and how it was cut off too early. This tells us that our ending was very unclear and too sudden. To fix this, we could reshoot the ending by making it smoother and more clear to the audience. he also pointed out another flaw, which was the "office" scene. He brought up the messy background, which distracted the audience from the main focus of the frame. Again, we can fix this by reshooting the scene, clearing up the untidiness in the background.

We then asked David what his favourite part of the advert was. He responded by saying he really enjoyed the cannon part. This shows our intention of entertaining our target audience was a success. The music also seemed very fitting with the space-invader theme of our advert. We believe with this feedback we correctly represented our product in our advert.

Here is a previous pringles advert used to advertise the product. The advert is entertaining to watch, as the humorous explosions are very engaging to watch. The advert is targeted at a young audience, as the product is widely used by younger people. The funny elements of the advert engage very well with the audience, entertaining them as they watch. This is an element we put in to our own advert, and we managed to pull it off well given our feedback.

Our animated advert

After weeks of planning, shooting and editing, here is the finished animation.
We had to re-shoot several parts, including all of the people in the arcade scene at least three times. It was a pretty stressful process and I think I can speak for the whole group when I say we are glad it is finished!
However, it was still a lot of fun to produce. Through it's ups and downs, shooting definitely had its moments. There were days where nothing went right, and days where everything was funny and going well.. it was certainly a very mixed process.
We had to photograph three separate layers and edit them all together. These were: the office scene, the Pringles background, and of course, the people being shot out of the can. Shooting wasn't so bad, it was a lengthy progress but I think the editing was what took the longest to get right.
Along the way we learned a lot of new techniques in Final Cut Pro, including how to take out green-screen and how to edit separate layers together. We had a lot of rendering and exporting issues, but in the end we managed to finish it and we are very pleased! Enjoy! :)
